Tragedy as boy, 17, killed and three others hurt in horror crash in Aldridge, police are appealing for witnesses
A 17-year-old boy was killed and three others were injured in a horror crash after a police chase ended in tragedy.
The teenager died after the car smashed into a tree just before midnight near Bosty Lane in Aldridge, near the junction with Daw End, in Walsall.
It’s thought traffic officers spotted the vehicle just moments earlier and there was a short pursuit, according to West Midlands Police.
Officers gave CPR at the scene until paramedics from the West Midlands Ambulance Service arrived.
The 17-year-old boy died at the scene from his injuries and three others in the car during the fatal crash were rushed to hospital.
The conditions of the 16-year-old boy and two men aged 21 and 22 are not life-threatening.
Liaison officers are supporting the families of all those involved in the crash and an investigation was launched.
The incident is being assessed by West Midlands Police’s Professional Standards Department (PSD) and is being referred to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC).
Senior officer from Walsall Local Policing Area, Superintendent Pervez Mohammed, said: ‘Our thoughts remain firmly with the families of all those involved in the collision and we will be supporting them through this difficult time.
‘The investigation is at a really early stage, and we’re trying to establish exactly what happened.
‘As a police vehicle was in the area at the time of the collision it’s really important that we investigate what happened and we will refer this incident to the IOPC, which is normal in these circumstances, who can assess the circumstances independently. Our Professional Standards Department are also aware.’
The police will review dashcam and body-worn video footage as part of the police probe.
Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam recording to get in touch.
