FAIRFIELD – One person is behind bars suspected of DUI and a hit-and-run suspect is on the loose after two people were struck and killed by vehicles in separate crashes in Fairfield, police said.

A woman was crossing north on East Travis Boulevard at Kidder Avenue, when she was hit by a pickup truck driving west.

Despite life-saving measures, the woman died at the scene. She has not been identified.

Police said the driver of the pickup, 44-year-old Angelica Medina of Suisun, stopped. Officers said they determined she was driving under the influence of drugs. She was arrested and booked into jail for vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

A man was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver when he was crossing Sunset Boulevard, police said.

No suspect information has been released and the crash remains under investigation.

Both streets were closed for several hours but have since reopened.

Just last week, two pedestrians were hit by vehicles in Fairfield, police said. In the last 30 days, police said seven pedestrians have been injured after they were hit by a vehicle.

Police are encouraging drivers to drive sober, not speed and avoid blocking crosswalks while making a right turn. They’re encouraging pedestrians to be predictable, watch for vehicles, be careful and make it easier for drivers to see them at night.
