Thunderstorm and heavy rain warnings have been extended until Monday for much of England, east Wales, and southern Scotland. The Met Office stated that, while many locations would be spared from the storms, there was a “small chance of flooding and disruption” in some. A amber warning telling people to “be aware” went into effect from 04:00 BST on Sunday, affecting broad areas of southern England, the Midlands, the north of England, and southern Scotland. It expires at 23:59. Another yellow warning has since been issued, covering much of England, eastern Scotland, and eastern Wales from midnight Sunday to 23:59 Monday.

The Met Office said that flooding was possible, and that “frequent lightning strikes and hail will be additional hazards” in southern and central England. The most heavy downpours will have frequent lightning and strong winds. However, determining the specific areas of these showers is difficult, and it is worth keeping up with the most recent prediction as it may alter. Aside from the heavy showers and thunderstorms, there will be some sunny days. Many people, particularly in south-east England, will have experienced extreme heat and humidity.

Monday storms. Monday’s warning extends across much of England, east and north Wales, and as far as southern and eastern Scotland. According to the Met Office, “while many places will miss them, thunderstorms may cause flooding and disruption”. It further stated that thunderstorms might drop 60-80mm of rain in one or two locations in an hour. Frequent lightning strikes and hail may provide an extra risk.
