Three children among four killed in horror A34 crash in Newbury, police are appealing for witnesses

Two boys aged 11 and 13 and an 11-year-old girl died

Following a pile-up involving four cars and four lorries on the A34 near Newbury, four people—including three children—had died and numerous others have been injured.

The collision happened on the northbound portion of the route just following the East Ilsley detour.

Six ambulances attended the scene as well as two air ambulances, Sky News reported.

Four people were pronounced dead at the scene and one man was flown to hospital and is believed to be in a “life threatening condition”.

The 45-year-old woman, two boys aged 11 and 13 and an 11-year-old girl have yet to be named.

Nine people were treated at the scene with two others taken to hospital for minor injuries.

 

The northbound carriageway between the M4 junction at Chieveley and West Ilsley is currently closed and is likely to remain closed for a significant amount of time.

Although it is now closed, the southbound carriageway is expected to reopen later on Wednesday night.

Police are requesting anyone with information regarding the collision to get in touch.

 

A 30-year-old Andover resident who was detained on suspicion of killing someone by reckless driving has been freed on bond.
