The Sutton Pass closed as rescue team attends serious crash scene
Ucluelet RCMP responded to a single vehicle collision along Highway 4 near Sutton Pass.
A Ucluelet driver was heading home from Port Alberni but lost control of their vehicle and crashed into bushes off the right side of the highway. Injuries were reported and the driver was the vehicle’s sole occupant.
Ucluelet RCMP kicked off the investigation despite the collision occurring on Port Alberni’s side of the Pass.
“The initial caller said it was on this side of Sutton Pass. We got to Sutton Pass and still didn’t come across the accident so we went another 10-15 km further and then found the accident,” Swann said.
He said no one was at the crash site when police arrived but Ucluelet police have since spoken with the driver.
“Because it happened in Port Alberni we do the preliminary part and Port Alberni looks after the rest,” Swann said, adding the RCMP detachments in Ucluelet, Tofino, Ahousaht, and Port Alberni work closely together and will venture beyond jurisdictional boundaries to assist each other.
