Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers are irrelevant if they don’t make a quarterback upgrade.
Yes, I am aware of what a significant number of you are thinking: “Jarrett and his persistently deranged thought process.”
Furthermore, I don’t like to be depressing. However, I’m a realist. And the truth is that if the Steelers don’t take significant action to improve at quarterback, their ceiling is really low.
Although the Steelers would have the greatest cornerback tandem in football if they traded for L’Jarius Sneed, how far would it bring them? If it were 2006, I would have far more faith in the ability to assemble a formidable defence and believe that mediocre to subpar quarterbacking would carry them through January. Regretfully, though, it isn’t 2006, when a team led by Rex Grossman finished 13-3 and advanced to the Super Bowl. It’s a whole different league, and your ceiling will be significantly lower than that of a club with a great quarterback if you don’t have a true person behind centre.
Just take a look at the quarterbacks in the AFC: Lamar Jackson, C.J. Stroud, Trevor Lawrence, Justin Herbert, Josh Allen, and Joe Burrow. To make it to the Super Bowl, you will need to defeat all three of those players, and you most definitely won’t be doing it with Kenny Pickett. With each new statistic regarding Pickett, the picture grows increasingly dire. Since the 2022 season began, Pickett has been a qualified quarterback 35 times. He currently ranks 33rd in yards per attempt, 34th in touchdown-interception ratio, and 34th in passer rating.
For anyone attempting to counter the claim that Tim Tebow has a winning record and a tonne of fourth-quarter comebacks, let me say this: while leading the NFL in fourth-quarter comebacks in 2011, Tebow was still a pretty poor player.
