WINCHESTER — Three people were injured, one seriously, in a crash on Route 10 Monday, according to Winchester Police Chief David Rice.

A Ford sedan and a Subaru Crosstrek collided shortly before 10 a.m., according to Rice, who said police believe the crash occurred as one of the drivers attempted to pass the other. It’s not yet clear exactly how the collision occurred, Rice said.

Vehicle crash

Both vehicles were on Manning Hill Road (Route 10), and Rice said the crash happened in the northbound lane. Following the collision, the Ford rolled over twice and struck a utility pole, trapping the driver, according to Rice. Winchester Fire personnel extricated the driver from the vehicle, and this person was flown by helicopter to a hospital with serious injuries, Rice said. He did not know immediately which hospital that person was flown to

The driver and a minor passenger in the Crosstrek were taken to Cheshire Medical Center by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Rice.

He said both vehicles sustained significant damaged, as did the utility pole, which will need to be replaced. The crash left a handful of utility customers without power, according to Eversource.

Route 10 was closed in both directions for about an hour and a half.

Winchester police did not immediately know the identities of the drivers Monday morning.
