“Sources close to the player”: The prospective free agent for Leeds

On the last day of the January transfer window, Daniel Farke was able to bring right-back Connor Roberts to Leeds United, but he was unable to recruit the center-half he was hoping for.

Ben Godfrey departed his Norwich team to join Everton, and although the Toffees were reportedly willing to let him leave, the Whites saw a loan move for the Englishman denied. Farke wanted to reunite with Godfrey.

Harry Souttar of rival Leicester City was another player the Championship’s chasers examined. They thought about making a last-ditch effort to sign the 25-year-old, but in the end, nothing came of it.

Then there was Paul Dummett of Newcastle United, who was thought to meet all of Farke’s requirements. Before the deadline, Leeds and fellow top-flight team Ipswich Town both made unsuccessful attempts to sign him. However, there is now renewed optimism that they will be able to recruit the Welshman.
Dummett is expected to be a free agent.

Journalist Joel Bland reports that Leeds target Dummett, who has been a member of the Magpies since he was a young youngster, will be departing the team at the end of the current campaign.

Bland claims that after being retained on reduced terms for the 2023–24 season, “sources close to the player” have confirmed that Newcastle will not extend his contract.

Dummett’s “Outstanding” display creates transfer cases

For a 32-year-old on a one-year contract, Dummett hasn’t played much for Eddie Howe’s team this year. His only starts have come in the Carabao Cup against Manchester United and City. He was substituted late in the FA Cup victory over Sunderland and the 4-1 Premier League victory over Chelsea.

Dummett had a tall order to deliver against the team that won the treble the previous season, but he did it admirably and helped Newcastle win 1-0 while keeping a clean sheet. on addition to doing a great job on the backline, the veteran was consistently accurate and safe in possession.

Regarding his performance, Howe stated: “Paul was excellent. Observing him in the background on a daily basis, his dedication to Newcastle, his professionalism, and his standards have been exceptional ever since I’ve been here. He can still have a significant impact on the pitch, which is why I was so keen to keep him in the summer.

“He has a great defensive mentality and a lot of experience. I felt that both he and Jamaal [Lascelles] were excellent for us, and I’m happy that we shown that strength in our back line because it will be crucial this season.”

Dummett will think that this performance shown that he still had a lot of potential in his career, and Leeds would be foolish not to sign him as a shrewd squad member for the 2024–2025 season.
