Russell Wilson departs from the Pittsburgh Steelers

Pittsburgh Josina Anderson reports that Russell Wilson, a quarterback for the Pro Bowl, left his visit without a contract, thus the Pittsburgh Steelers will wait to see whether he joins them this season. Nonetheless, the conference was said to have gone well and lasted “hours.” Wilson had stopped with the New York Giants and was now visiting the Steelers. Although there has been talk of interest from both parties, Wilson’s free agency is approaching, so he will probably have a choice about where to play in 2024.

With Wilson’s signing, the Steelers are showing that they have faith in Kenny Pickett. A league source claims that Pittsburgh sees Wilson as Pickett’s backup this season, serving as a mentor to the rookie quarterback and providing them with security in a backup.

The previous season, Wilson, 35, had a 7-8 record with the Denver Broncos, throwing for 3,070 yards and 26 touchdowns against eight interceptions. Despite being released by the Broncos for salary cap reasons, he still has over $85 million left on his contract, which has many speculating that he would sign for the league minimum when he joins a new team.

  • Wilson did not sign a contract during his visit, but it is still possible that he will sign an offseason agreement with the Steelers. He’ll probably keep looking into other possibilities before deciding Pittsburgh is the ideal place for him to further his career.
