Road in Clevedon closed after collision leaves woman trapped in flipped car

A road in Clevedon is closed after a two-vehicle collision left a woman trapped in a flipped car.

Avon Fire and Rescue tweeted a picture of thee upside-down vehicle following the crash on the B3124 Walton Road.

According to Bristol Live, a man has been arrested following the collision.

A spokesman for South Western Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 06:59 to reports of a road traffic collision.

“We attended with an ambulance and it has been reported that one patient has been taken to Southmead Hospital.”

The tweet from Avon Fire and Rescue said: “Crews from @AvonmouthFire and @ClevedonFireare currently attending a two-vehicle road traffic collision on Walton Road in Clevedon.

“One vehicle is on its roof and one female casualty is trapped. @ASPolice and @swasFT are also on the scene. Expect delays.”

Traffic service INRIX says: “B3124 in both directions closed due to accident, a car and a van involved from Holly Lane to Walton Street. Traffic is coping well.

“The accident happened around 07:00 and is affecting traffic between Clevedon and Portishead.”

Police statement

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police told Bristol Live: “One of the vehicles was on its roof and the woman driver had to be freed by fire crews.

“She was taken to hospital by ambulance with injuries which are not currently believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

“The male driver of the other vehicle was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drink or drugs and remains in police custody at the time of writing.

“The road remains closed pending recovery of the vehicles.”
