M6 Long delays and lane closures after ‘multi vehicle collision’ on motorway

Delay : There are currently delays of 20 minutes against expected traffic

 

Driver are being warned of long delays on the M6 this morning following a ‘multi-vehicle collision’ near Wigan.

One lane is closed southbound between junctions 27 and 26. Emergency services are on the scene.

National Highways say it’s led to delays of around 60 minutes.

Traffic cameras in the area also show long queues of traffic on the opposite carriageway heading north.

National Highways posted on X: “The M6 is partially blocked southbound between J27 Wigan and J26 M58 due to a multi-vehicle collision. @NWmwaypolice are in attendance.

“Please allow extra time for your journey.”

Current state of play

It looks like traffic is currently queuing all the way back to junction 28 for the Leyland Interchange.

One lane remains closed heading south.

Traffic England is reporting the incident is expected to be clear by 3pm.

Delays now 90 minutes

According to the Traffic England website there’s now delays of around 90 minutes due to the earlier crash.
