Live A21 update as crash blocks road near Tunbridge Wells – recap

Following a collision that closed a crucial section of the A21 near Tunbridge Wells, drivers encountered considerable traffic. Near Pembury, on the southbound lane between the A228 and A26 intersections, there was a reported collision.

Throughout the afternoon, both lanes of the southbound carriageway were restricted, which resulted in heavy traffic building up on approach. At the time, National Highways reported delays in the vicinity of at least ten minutes.

A car was involved in the collision, according to Inrix, a traffic and travel monitoring firm. Whether or not any other vehicles were involved, as well as any injuries, are yet unknown.

KentLive has approached emergency services for further details. The incident was cleared and the road re-opened at around 3.45pm, with normal traffic conditions resuming soon after.

A21 re-opened

The latest Inrix update states: “Road cleared and traffic easing, accident cleared on A21 Southbound at Longfield Road (North Farm Roundabout).” Traffic maps show that the congestion is easing and delays are beginning to clear.

Road remains blocked

Inrix has confirmed that the A21 southbound remains blocked near Tunbridge Wells. Both lanes have been shut between the A26 and A228 following a reported collision involving a car.

National Highways now estimates the road will re-open between 4.45pm and 5pm. KentLive has approached emergency serivces for further information.

When road closure will end

National Highways currently reports that the road closure on the A21 soutbound will end by 3pm. However, this may change as the situation develops.

Both lanes of the southbound carriageway are closed between the junctions with the A26 and the A228 near Tunbridge Wells. Congestion has been reported on approach.

The latest Inrix update states: “A21 Southbound blocked, queueing traffic due to accident, a car involved at Longfield Road (North Farm Roundabout).”

Where the crash has happened

A collision has been reported on the A21 southbound near Tunbridge Wells. Both lanes of the carriageway have been blocked between the junctions with the A26 and the A228, close to Pembury.

Delays of around 10 minutes have been reported on approach. It is not yet known if there have been any injuries and KentLive has approached emergency services for comment.
