After yet another exciting day in the Championship, Leeds United is still in second place in the standings. If they defeat Millwall on Sunday, they would take the top spot after Leicester City and Ipswich Town both lost ground.

After defeating Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 on Friday night, Daniel Farke’s team could only observe as their rivals for promotion played today. Leeds’ victory at Hillsborough propelled them into the second automatic promotion spot, where they remained following Ipswich Town’s disastrous loss to Cardiff City.

Kieran McKenna’s team appeared to be headed for an away victory after Kieffer Moore’s goal, but there was amazing late drama as Cardiff struck twice in extra time. First, in minute 95, Ryan Wintle scored with a volley after Ipswich failed to clear their lines. Then, on minute 100, Callum O’Dowda scored a sensational winner.

League leaders Leicester City drew 2-2 with Hull City, dropping two more points. Hull took the lead through Liverpool loanee Fabio Carvalho after Hull missed an early penalty, but Jamie Vardy’s penalty for Leicester tied the score. After the break, the hosts scored twice in quick succession through goals from Anass Zaroury and Vardy. However, Leicester responded right away, retaking the lead through another goal from Vardy. That is how things remained, therefore if Leeds defeats Millwall by more than one goal, they will pass the Foxes.

With goals from Stuart Armstrong and Adam Armstrong to put Southampton ahead by two goals at halftime at St Mary’s, the Saints dominated Sunderland. Romaine Mundle scored the Blacks’ first goal of the game at the hour mark, pulling one back before Jobe Bellingham levelled the scores. However, a swift double from Joe Rothwell put Southampton ahead once more, regaining their two-goal advantage as they won 4-2.

Gomes Sara, Jacob Sorensen, Borja Sainz, and Josh Sargent all scored goals as Norwich City cruised to a 4-0 lead at the interval against Rotherham United, the team in the basement. Gomes Sara scored a fifth goal to maintain David Wagner’s team’s playoff hopes.

Next Sunday, Leeds United will return to action when they visit Millwall at the New Den at 3 p.m. Prior to that, Ipswich will play Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, while Leicester City will play Chelsea in the FA Cup. The FA Cup has caused Southampton’s scheduled game to be postponed.
