Graham Smyth views Sheffield Wednesday’s resurgence as “remarkable,” with Leeds United gearing up to confront their relegation-threatened adversaries at Hillsborough on Friday, March 8th.

The Owls have displayed impressive form, securing five wins in their last six league fixtures, with their only setback occurring in a 2-0 loss to league leaders Leicester City at the King Power Stadium during this period.

Danny Rohl has orchestrated an impressive resurgence since taking over from Xisco Munoz, who managed only two points from 10 matches, including a solitary point from a goalless draw with Leeds at Elland Road in September.

Smyth acknowledged the significant impact the German manager has made at Hillsborough, with Wednesday currently occupying 23rd place but now only two points adrift of 16th.

Speaking on the Inside Elland Road podcast on Thursday, Yorkshire Evening Post writer Smyth commented: “The fans, much like Rother ham United fans, were convinced they were heading for relegation. Then, a new manager arrives… He has completely transformed them. Despite their initial struggles, they are still in contention. It’s been a remarkable turnaround, even though they are still facing the threat of relegation. Among the teams battling at the bottom, I believe they have one of the better chances of survival – they’re showing real determination.”

Journalist Joe Donnohue from the Yorkshire Evening Post chimed in, stating: “If you were to start the season in December, Sheffield Wednesday would be considered a team chasing the playoffs. Facing such a team when fatigued, as Leeds might be, is not ideal. However, it’s worth noting that nobody wants to face Leeds at the moment either.”

Leeds United: Graham Smyth delivers 'remarkable' verdict ahead of Sheffield Wednesday clash

Will Sheffield Wednesday be able to keep up their good play against Leeds United?

The Owls, who have won five of their past six games and only lost to Leicester City 2-0, will think they can surprise Leeds at Hillsborough.

Even if earlier in the season it seemed hopeless for Wednesday, survival now appears to be a very real possibility for the team, and a victory over the Whites would move them one step closer to that goal.
