Expert: Mikey Johnston “won’t go back to Celtic” after his West Brom stint finishes

After going on loan to West Brom, Mikey Johnston will permanently depart Celtic.

Frank McAvennie, a former West Ham and Hoops striker, revealed exclusively to Football Insider that while Johnston is a “damn good player,” he lacks the fortitude to succeed at Parkhead.

The winger’s contract with Celtic will expire in the summer of 2025. After spending six months on loan at the Championship Baggies, he returned to Celtic and has since scored two goals in six games.

The 24-year-old, who only made three league starts for the Hoops this season before joining West Brom, has been plagued by injuries ever since making his senior debut in 2017.

According to Frank McAvennie, Mikey Johnston, a graduate of the Celtic Academy, will leave the team at the end of the current campaign.

Johnston will leave the Glasgow giants at the conclusion of current season, according to McAvennie, who also asserted that he would perform better in the Championship than in Scotland.

“He has no intention of returning,” he said Football Insider.
He scored two goals for West Brom, but he can score more in Scotland, my god.

“He was the greatest thing since sliced toast when he scored two goals against Dundee!
It was amazing.

“Despite his years of Celtic experience, he was not being included in the team.

“The boy’s talent is undeniable.

However, the culture and motivation at Celtic don’t inspire him when it comes to his performance.
“He retreats into himself. Mickey doesn’t thrive on that, but I do.

“The Championship is a nice level for him; he’s a darn fantastic player.”
