Axbridge News: Police seek help following fatal accident – man walking along New Road in Shipham dies in collision with a van

By Harry Mottram: A man has died in Shipham following a collision with a van on lunchtime in broad daylight. The pedestrian was struck by the van in New Road – the road leading out of the village to the A38 past the village hall and cemetery linking up at the star fuel station. The road was closed all day with an air ambulance dispatched to the incident. Axbridge News understands the accident was between the entrance to the village hall and the school entrance – according to locals. The road is restricted by a 30mph as you enter the village.

We are looking for witnesses to a deadly collision that happened in Shipham earlier this week.

Shortly earlier, we received a contact from the ambulance service regarding reports of a man pedestrian suffering significant injuries in a collision with a van on New Road.

 

Sadly, the man was declared dead at the site despite the presence of cops, paramedics, and an air ambulance.

 

We have notified the man’s next of kin and send our condolences to them during this deeply distressing time. There will be a family liaison officer to support them.

The driver of the van remained at the scene. Enquiries into the collision are ongoing.

The road was closed for several hours to enable collision investigation work to be conducted, and reopened in the evening.
