Drivers beware: Eight weeks of town centre roadworks in STOKE-ON-TRENT

Motorists are bracing themselves for traffic delays – when eight weeks of roadworks get underway. The £580,000 roadworks – on the A519 Brook Lane, in Newcastle-under-Lyme – are expected to start this week.

It includes carriageway resurfacing and the replacement of any damaged kerbs and drains. Overnight road closures, temporary lane closures, and diversions will be in operation during the works which are expected to run until November.

It comes as Staffordshire County Council is investing more than £50 million in its road network in the next three years.

Councillor Mark Deaville, cabinet member for strategic highways, said: “This is a well-used road in Newcastle. As always, our crews will be doing their best to keep disruption to a minimum, which will include doing the resurfacing overnight when the road is quieter. I’d like to thank people in advance for their patience while this important work takes place.”

Newcastle Borough Council leader Simon Tagg added: “Brook Lane is one of the main roads in and out of the town centre, so it’s an important scheme for the borough. These long-awaited improvements will be welcomed by everyone who uses the road and, once completed, we can look forward to smoother journeys into town.”
