BOSTON CELTIC
SAD NEWS: Celtics star is doubtful for the Suns game on Saturday.
When the Celtics take on the Suns in Phoenix on Saturday, they want to recover from their only other two-game losing streak of the season.
For just the second time this season, the Boston Celtics dropped their second straight game at Ball Arena on Thursday night, setting up a possible NBA Finals preview.
With a 4.5-game lead, their 48-14 record has them comfortably atop the league rankings.
On Saturday, they will take on the Phoenix Suns, who are now sixth in the Western Conference with a 37-26 record, 6-4 in their last 10 games, and winners of two straight.
However, Devin Booker’s sprained right ankle may prevent him from playing when these two teams meet at TD Garden on March 14. The hosts will need to overcome this setback.
Regarding the visitors, Jaylen Brown is labelled as questionable for Saturday’s game after playing through a sacroiliac strain on Thursday, when he scored 41 points, pulled down 14 rebounds, dishevelled the ball, and had two steals in Boston’s 115-109 loss to the Nuggets.
The Mayo Clinic defines a sacroiliac strain as follows:
“A painful condition that affects one or both sacroiliac joints. These joints sit where the lower spine and pelvis meet. Sacroiliitis can cause pain and stiffness in the buttocks or lower back, and the pain might go down one or both legs.”
Jayson Tatum is also on the Celtics’ injury report. The five-time All-Star finished with 15 points on 5/13 shooting, dished out eight assists, grabbed four rebounds, and swiped two steals vs. the defending champions.
But he also committed five turnovers, including a mishandled pass to Brown on a possible alley-oop in the last minute when the C’s were down two, and a missed open corner three that would have given them the lead on the same possession.
Additionally, he twice overlooked Aaron Gordon in crucial situations, which allowed Nikola Jokic to make an alley-oop and a put-back dunk to help Denver win.
Tatum is likely to play on Saturday despite suffering from a right ankle discomfort. He is undoubtedly anxious to get rid of the bad taste from a night when his MVP case was shut down.
Neemias Queta is also listed as probable in Boston. The Portuguese 24-year-old hasn’t played since the All-Star break due to a hyperextended right knee.
